Short Description
What does the fall of Baghdad mean? What does it mean that the caliph was killed and no other caliph was appointed?
What does the fall of Baghdad mean?
The people wondered, and raised the two following serious questions
What does the fall of Baghdad mean?
What does it mean that the caliph was killed and no other caliph was appointed?
For the Muslims, the world had no significance without a caliphate or a caliph; and even in spite of the clear aspects of weakness during the last years of the Abbasid Caliphate, and the fact that it only controlled Baghdad along with some parts of Iraq, the caliphate was a very important symbol for the Muslims.
In the presence of the caliphate, regardless of how weak it might be, there was hope that it would probably become strong one day, and the Muslims would gather together under its banner. But in the absence of the caliphate, it would be too difficult for them to gather.
How calamitous it is that the caliphate should disappear! How disastrous it is that the caliph should expire!
